2026 PUBLIC PRICE SAMPLE + QUOTE CALCULATOR

How much does a small-business website cost in Australia?

Eight public Australian price examples, a transparent methodology and a calculator that compares the whole quote over 12, 24 and 36 months.

Australian website quotes compared by upfront cost, 12-month total and ownership

PUBLIC PRICE EXAMPLES

Eight Australian offers, checked on 27 August 2026.

This is a purposive sample of provider pages that published enough pricing detail to compare. It deliberately leaves out quote-only providers. It is neither random nor exhaustive, and it should not be used to calculate a market average.

One-page builds, multi-page projects, proprietary subscriptions and custom sites are different products. “From” prices may not be the final quote. Most pages did not state whether GST was included.

Methodology and limits

SMB Sites reviewed first-party Australian provider pages that publicly displayed a usable entry price on 27 August 2026. We recorded the displayed price, basic scope, ongoing charges and ownership or exit wording visible on the same pricing page.

  • Quote-only agencies are absent, so this sample cannot represent the whole market.
  • Packages with different page counts, content work, platforms and support are not directly equivalent.
  • “From” and promotional prices may rise after a detailed brief.
  • Where GST or ownership was silent, the table says “not stated” rather than guessing.
  • Prices can change after the observation date. Follow the source link before relying on a figure.

BLANK QUOTE CALCULATOR

Compare two website quotes over time.

Enter only costs that are separate. If a launch payment is already included in an upfront total, do not enter it twice. The 12, 24 and 36-month totals include any buyout amount you enter. The minimum service commitment does not.

Your figures stay in this browser tab. They are not saved or sent to SMB Sites.

A PRACTICAL COMPARISON FRAMEWORK

Four common ways a website is sold.

This is a useful framework, not an exhaustive description of the Australian market.

  1. DIY website builder. You pay a hosted platform and do the planning, writing, design and setup yourself.
  2. Fixed-price build. A freelancer or agency charges a project fee. Hosting, maintenance and later edits may be separate.
  3. Monthly website service. The build and service are paid monthly. Some plans transfer the website after a defined period; others remain rentals or require a buyout.
  4. Custom or complex project. Ecommerce, customer portals, calculators, integrations and custom software are scoped around the requirements.

The right question is not simply “upfront or monthly?” It is: What is the total, what work is included, what continues, and what do I own?

WHAT YOU ARE REALLY PAYING FOR

The page count is only one part of the quote.

Planning

Someone needs to decide who the website is for, what visitors need to understand, which pages are necessary and what action the site should encourage.

Copywriting

Five blank pages are not a five-page website. If the quote says “content supplied by client”, allow for the time and difficulty of writing accurate service, area, proof and process copy yourself.

Design

Changing the colours in a pre-built theme is different work from designing around the business. Neither approach is automatically wrong, but they should not be described as the same thing.

Development and functionality

A straightforward service website may need tap-to-call links, a useful enquiry form, maps and clear service pages. Payments, live availability, complex bookings and customer accounts are different jobs.

Search foundations

Clear titles, headings, internal links, useful content and crawlable page structure are sensible foundations. They do not equal an ongoing SEO campaign and do not guarantee rankings.

Launch and ongoing care

Domain setup, hosting, security, backups, form delivery, analytics, testing and future edits all need an owner. A low build price can become expensive when these were excluded.

BEFORE YOU SIGN

Request these seven numbers in writing.

  1. Upfront payment before work starts.
  2. Payment due at launch.
  3. Monthly fee and when it begins.
  4. Minimum term or remaining balance if you leave early.
  5. Total paid after 12 months.
  6. Ongoing annual or monthly cost after the build period.
  7. Buyout or handover cost, if any.

Then ask what each number includes. A $0-upfront offer can still cost more over time. A higher upfront quote may include more work and lower ongoing costs.

THE SMB SITES FIGURES

$1,188 + GST across 12 payments.

  • $0 upfront.
  • The first $99 + GST payment starts when the approved website launches.
  • Twelve payments total $1,188 + GST.
  • After payment 12, the finished website files are yours.
  • Cancel before then and future payments stop; the site comes down unless you pay the unpaid balance and take the files early.

The standard scope is for a straightforward small-business website: planning and copywriting, custom design, up to five useful pages, responsive development, an enquiry form, basic on-page search setup, and hosting, security and small edits while build payments are active.

Ecommerce, complex bookings, custom applications, ongoing SEO campaigns and substantial content work need separate scoping.

See the approach for Australian trade businesses, or check an existing homepage before replacing it.

THE FINAL CHECK

Look at what survives after the invoice is paid.

Ask for the scope, total, exclusions and exit terms on one page. Then look at the work. Does it feel designed for different businesses, or like the same layout with different colours? Can the provider explain how the copy becomes accurate? Will the website still work well on a phone?

Price matters. So does what is included, what keeps costing money, and what you can take with you.

Sources and update policy

Every price row links to the first-party provider page checked on 27 August 2026. General guidance also refers to the Google Search Central SEO Starter Guide and auDA's domain and DNS explainer.

The sample will be updated when material source changes are identified. The visible update date and downloadable CSV will change with it.
